New Delhi: There are reports of a fresh physical brawl having taken place between Indian and Chinese troops, this time at Naku La in Sikkim, thousands of kilometres away from the ongoing standoff at the Line of Actual Control in eastern Ladakh.

Reports said the clash took place three days ago last week when the troops of the People’s Liberation Army attempted to intrude inside Indian territory.

The Indian Army troops foiled the intrusion bid and physical clashes ensued, in which soldiers from both sides were reported to be injured.

Sources said no firearms were used during the clash. The situation is reported to be under control now.

It may be noted that before the standoff started at several locations in eastern Ladakh last April/May, a clash had taken place at Naku La.

The clashes came just days before the ninth round of military talks between India and China, which was held on Sunday. The marathon Corps Commander-level talks went on for nearly 16 hours and focussed on disengagement of troops from all friction points in eastern Ladakh.

It was reported that the talks, which started at around 10:30 am, ended late into the night at 2:30 am.

Sources said India conveyed to China at the talks that it was for Beijing to proceed with the process of disengagement and de-escalation at friction points along the LAC in Ladakh.

It may be noted that nearly 100,000 Indian and Chinese troops continue to remain deployed in eastern Ladakh amid the ongoing border standoff.

In June last year, the troops from the two sides had clashed at the Galwan Valley in which 20 Indian soldiers and an unspecified number of PLA men had died. That was the first incident of border casualty between India and China in nearly five decades.
