New Delhi: The Indian Army is using Heron drones, ALH Dhruv helicopters, and its weaponised version Rudra to keep an eye on the Chinese forces’ activities along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). The forces have placed high-end cameras and synthetic aperture radar to capture the movement of People’s Liberation Army (PLA).
“This is the most beautiful aircraft as far as surveillance resources are concerned. Since its inception, it has been the backbone of surveillance. It can climb up to 30,000 ft and continue to give feed to commanders on the ground. So that, we can manoeuver forces on the ground. It has an endurance of 24- 30 hours at a stretch,” Major Karthik Garg told ANI while giving details of the Israel-origin Heron drones.
Rudra is equipped with Mistral air-to-air missiles, 70 mm rockets, 20 mm guns and ATGMs.
Meanwhile, in view of the Chinese forces using barbed clubs and tasers against the Indian Army soldiers during the Galwan Valley clash, the forces have now been provided non-lethal weapons which are inspired by the traditional Indian weapons like the ‘Trishul’ of Lord Shiva.
A start-up based in Noida was entrusted with the task to build the traditional weapons for the security forces deployed along LAC to thwart any Chinese aggression.
“We were asked by the Indian security forces to develop non-lethal equipment after the Chinese used wired sticks and tasers against our soldiers in the Galwan clash. We could also see the Chinese showing their traditional weapons during deployments,” Mohit Kumar, Chief Technology Officer of Apasteron Private Limited told ANI.
The company has made a metal rod taser with spikes that have been named Vajra. The traditional weapon can be used by the forces for both tasing aggressively attacking enemy soldiers as well as puncture their bullet-proof vehicles.
Another tasing equipment called ‘Sapper Punch’ has been provided to the forces which can be worn like winter protection gloves and can be used to give a blow or two with a current discharge to the enemy.
It may be noted that Chinese soldiers had attacked Indian Armymen with barbed clubs during the the Galwan Valley clash.
India and China have been engaged in a bitter border standoff in several areas of eastern ladakh since May 2020. While both the neighbouring countries have pulled back their troops from several friction points after intense diplomatic and military-level talks, some areas are still to be demilitarised.
The 13th round of the India-China Corps Commander-level meeting was held at the Chushul-Moldo border meeting point on October 10. Following the talks, the Ministry of external affairs had said that New Delhi expects Beijing to work towards early resolution of all the remaining issues on the LAC in eastern Ladakh.
