DRDO’s Anti-Drone System Can Neutralize The Threat Of Any Drone
29 June 2021
Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) chief G Satheesh Reddy on Tuesday said the counter-drone technology developed by his organization enables the armed forces to rapidly detect, intercept and eliminate small drones that pose a security threat. can give strength. He said that DRDO’s anti-drone system will give both “soft kill” and “hard kill” options to the army to deal with the new and rapidly emerging aerial threat. In this, the first system jams the drone, while the second laser-based kill system can eliminate them. Reddy’s remarks came two days after small drones were used to target the Jammu Air Force Station. This is the first offensive use of drones to target an Indian military base at the Air Force Station on June 27.
DRDO’s counter-drone technology uses a variety of methods to neutralize the threat of such air strikes. Officials explained how the system works. The system has a radar that detects micro drones up to 4 km away and gives 360-degree coverage. The electro-optical / infrared (EO / IR) sensor can detect micro drones up to a distance of 2 km. The Radio Frequency (RF) detector can detect any such communication up to 3 km.
Can Detect Drones Up To 3 Km
The RF/Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) Jammer can detect drones being controlled from a distance of 3 km. The laser based hard kill system can neutralize micro drones at a distance between 150 meters to 1 km. DRDO demonstrated its counter-drone technology to various security agencies at Hindon Air Force Station in January 2020 and at the National Security Guard (NSG) complex at Manesar in August 2020 and January 2021.
Such A Drone Can Destroy
The radar detects the micro drone and after verification of the sensor, proceeds for soft kill and hard kill. Once confirmed by RF detection, the system is ready to jam the RF/GNSS signal or attack it with laser weapons.
VVIP Has Been Used In Security
The system was deployed for VVIP security during Republic Day 2020, US President Donald Trump’s visit to Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad, Independence Day 2020 and Republic Day 2021. DRDO has given technology to Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) for the production of anti-drone systems. The three services have been informed about the capabilities of the system by writing letters. DRDO is also ready to provide technology to private companies for the production of anti-drone systems.
