MARCOS Enters Tricky Eastern Ladakh Terrain

01/12/2020

As India and China continue to see high tensions prevailing, the Marcos Commando force of the Indian Navy is now strategically deployed near Pangong Lake in eastern Ladakh. Marcos is the Navy’s Special Marine Commando force.

Marcos joins a tribe of commandos like the Garuda of the Indian Air Force and Para Special Forces of the Indian Army. As per government sources, the deployment of Marine Commandos is intended to enhance integration of the three services and provide exposure to naval commandos in the event of extreme cold weather. Sources point out – ‘Marcos has been deployed in the Pangong Lake area, where Indian and Chinese forces have been in conflict since April-May this year.’

The development comes at a time when the deadlock has remained even after several rounds of talks with China

Army and Air Force personnel have been standing here since the beginning. Several rounds of talks have been held between India and China so far. Even after this, no consensus has been reached to push for the removal of the army from eastern Ladakh. It looks most unlikely that the soldiers of both the countries will get to move out anytime soon.

Even after the eighth round of talks between the Corps commanders on November 6, no concrete progress has been made between the two countries. The military deadlock that has been going on for the last seven months still remains.
