India Successfully Test Fires Brahmos Supersonic Cruise Missile From INS Chennai

India successfully test-fired BrahMos supersonic cruise missile on Sunday from the Indian Navy’s indigenously-built stealth destroyer INS Chennai, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) said.

The missile which was fired from INS Chennai hit the target in the Arabian Sea with pinpoint accuracy after performing high-level and extremely complex manoeuvres.

BrahMos as ‘prime strike weapon’ will ensure the warship’s invincibility by engaging naval surface targets at long ranges, thus making the destroyer another lethal platform of Indian Navy.

“BRAHMOS, the supersonic cruise missile was successfully test-fired today on 18th October 2020 from Indian Navy’s indigenously-built stealth destroyer INS Chennai, hitting a target in the Arabian Sea. The missile hit the target successfully with pin-point accuracy,” the DRDO said in a tweet.

Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO, BrahMos and Indian Navy for the successful launch.

Secretary DDR&D & Chairman DRDO Dr G Satheesh Reddy, congratulated the scientists and all personnel of DRDO, BrahMos, Indian Navy and industry for the successful feat.

He stated that BrahMos missiles will add to the capabilities of Indian Armed Forces in many ways.

BrahMos is a short-range supersonic cruise missile. It can be released from a submarine, a warship, from an aircraft, or even from the ground.

The highly versatile BrahMos has been jointly designed, developed and produced by Russia’s NPO Machinostroyenia and India’s Defence Research and Development Organization.

BrahMos is the most modern missile system ever developed by India and Russia and has made India a leader in missile technology.

This test comes after another BrahMos missile with an indigenous airframe and booster and a range of 400 km was tested from an integrated test range at Balasore in Odisha on September 30.
